Below procedure can be used to root Samsung Galaxy young by using the Universal GB root v9. You have to be very careful while doing this rooting process because your warranty will be void. Just follow the Android Rooting steps and you will get your Galaxy Y rooted.

You can use ASTRO file manager for backing up your data and settings on the cloud using this software on your Android device. First you need to register for ASTRO Back Up Account and after that download ASTRO File Manager.
How To Root Samsung Galaxy Y
Step 1: In order to do this universal rooting you will need to enable the unknown sources by going to Settings => Applications => Unknown sources, just enable this option and tap OK on warning screen.
Step 2: Download the rooting file which we will use to load the Galaxy Y rooting software, i.e. Download Universal_GB_ROOT_v9.zip, on your computer.
Step 3: Insert your SD card to your computer and copy the above downloaded file on your SD card. After copy insert SD card to your mobile.
Step 4: Turn off your Galxy Y and put it in recovery mode by pressing and holding the Home + Power + volume up buttons together untill device turn on. On the recovery menu you will see very few options, look for apply update from sd card and scroll down using volume down button ans press home button to select.
Step 5: Select the file which you copied on SD card which you can see in the list, again using volume buttons you can move up or down. After you select the file press home button and root process will complete with in few seconds.
Step 6: Select the option of Reboot Device by pressing home button and device will reboot, you can see the superuser on the screen after the Galaxy Y Rooting is complete.
